A Look Inside Sugarhouse SM San Lazaro

"Happiness is knowing there is cake from Sugarhouse"


Sugarhouse, Manila's premier cake shop, has championed a tradition of good taste in cakes, pastries, and other delectable dishes for more than 35 years now.

Last Saturday, August 25, I was invited by Jeffrey De Real Rusios, Marketing Manager of Sugarhouse, to visit Sugarhouse SM San Lazaro branch to check out what the branch has to offer. Prior to the visit, I really didn't have much of an idea about Sugarhouse.

Arriving at the branch, I was greeted by the friendly and accommodating staff and we immediately went to business. They welcomed me with a nice cold Cafe Mocha and sugar free ensaymada. After taking a sip of the served beverage, I immediately said to myself, "Where have you been all my life, Sugarhouse?"



After taking a sip of the beverage, I immediately explored the area. The San Lazaro branch has a nice space for dine-in customers but I guess it was set-up as more of a take out station. From my rough estimate, the branch has a seating capacity of about 20-24, more or less.



But don't let that fool you. This branch has all the good stuff. Cakes, pastries, pies, breads, loaves, pasta, cookies, kisses, hot or ice blended drinks, and more.


Several cakes and pastries were presented to the batch of bloggers that day. Here are some of my recommendations:


Concorde: Three layers of vanilla chiffon filled with light othello chocolate mousse playfully covered with chocolate meringue sticks.
Available in three sizes: 8" (Php730), Petite (Php380) and Baby (Php180)


Chocolate Truffle: The best selling cake of Sugarhouse. Chocolate chiffon cake filled and iced with chocolate butter cream with a slight tinge of coffee.

Available in three sizes: 8" (Php975), Petite (Php330) and Baby (Php150)

Coffee Sans Rival: Not your usual, Sans Rival. Each of the layers of meringue wafers is filled with buttercream with a hint of coffee. Available in 8" (Php880) only.


Almond Sans Rival: Crunchy on the outside, chewy inside. Four delicious layers of cashew meringue and butter cream topped generously with sliced almonds. Melt-in-your mouth goodness that is truly sans rival.
Available in 8" (Php950) only.

Cashew Toffee: A light chocolate chiffon cake filled with chocolate mousse with a hint of rum. Glazed with extra creamy buttercream then topped with cashew toffee bits and chopped cashew.
Available in three sizes: 8" (Php975), Petite (Php380) and Baby (Php199)

About Sugarhouse:
The first Sugarhouse opened in July 1983 on a 75 square meter lot on Anza Street, near Makati Avenue in Makati City. The small building housed a kitchen, bakery, display and customer area that was full from the time it opened to the time it closed.
