Magayon Festival 2017 to Have A Big Close

Enjoy the beauty and majesty of Region V as Albay culminates its yearly month-long celebration of the Magayon Festival. Founded by Governor Al Francis C. Bichara, this month-long celebration aims to not only emphasize the beauty of the province but also the majesty of one declared wonder of the world, the Mayon Volcano.

The Magayon Festival started in 1999 from its original festivity, Karangahan Festival founded in 1997. This was a move by the governor not only to highlight the majestic volcano but also the legend behind it, the Legend of Daragang Magayon — a story that is so beautiful to read and heart-touching to all romantics. "Daragang" or "Daraga" means young girl or maiden and "Magayon" means beautiful.

It is the story of a young maiden, child of a datu, whose beauty is beyond compare. She had a lot of suitors, but none was able to catch her eye or fancy until a young man named Ulap from a far land came into her life. They fell in love and her father gave his blessing. A wedding was prepared but was thwarted when another suitor, Pagtuga of Iraga, kidnapped Magayon’s father. To save her father’s life, she agreed to wed him instead of Ulap. Ulap went home to his land and prepared an army to defend his love. On the wedding day of Magayon, a battle took place as the armies of Ulap and Pagtuga met. Pagtuga was killed, but it was not a happy ending because an arrow hit Magayon. In the arms of her love, she died and Ulap was stabbed by a guardsman of Pagtuga. They were then laid together, Magayon and Ulap, and on the ground where they were buried, a volcano slowly rose to great heights showing the love between the maiden and the warrior.

It is said that whenever the volcano is hidden by clouds, the lovers are kissing one another. This year, the culmination will happen on May 29-31, with various activities covering beauty, sports, talent, and thanksgiving. On the 29th, the 57th Sikaran National Tournament will take place at 9 a.m. in the Ayala Mall. On the same day, the grand finals of a singing contest will be held at 6 p.m. in PeƱaranda Park.

The search for Mutyang Magayon will happen the next day at 7 p.m. in the Albay Astrodome. May 31 will be a day for the Summer Dance Camp from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a street competition at 2 p.m. The closing event will be a fireworks display and a street party at the PeƱaranda Park. Simultaneously, a musical treat is set in the Astrodome at 7 p.m. True to his vision, Governor Bichara aims to make Albay a top tourist destination in Southern Luzon.

This month-long celebration is but a taste of what Albay has to offer in terms of sights, sounds, and hospitality. Let Albay enchant you with its beauty, story, and culture.

Philippine Employees Open to Flexi and Digital Workplace

Microsoft Asia Study says 79% consider themselves mobile workers today yet only 64% feel empowered by their organization to embrace the demands of the digital workplace.

Makati, Philippines, May 18, 2017 – Microsoft today unveiled findings of its Asia Workplace 2020 Study1, where it found that employees in Philippines do not feel empowered to embrace the demands of the digital workplace.

While 79% of Philippines respondents consider themselves to be mobile workers and spend at least 20% of their time working outside of their offices, 64% feel empowered by their organization’s culture and managers to be able to work together productively and collaboratively. In addition, only 53% of respondents agree that their organization is committed at a leadership level to ensure every employee is included in closing the digital skills gaps within the workforce.

The Study, which involved close to 4,200 working professionals from 14 markets in Asia, sought to understand shifting employee behaviors and gaps in the workplace when it came to productivity, collaboration and flexi-work practices. This included 312 respondents from Philippines.

"As Asia primes itself to become the most connected market with more than half of all mobile connections originating from the region by 20212, organizations need to rethink how they empower their workforce with the right culture, policy, infrastructure and tools to maximize their potential. This means enabling collaboration from anywhere, on any device. However, it is also critical for business leaders to evaluate and implement changes to counter cultural and management challenges that are hindering employees to work seamlessly from wherever they are, which will in turn, hinder an organization’s growth and progress in the digital age," said Cian O’Neill, Microsoft Philippines Chief Marketing and Chief Operating Officer.

A Digitally Savvy Workforce is Key to Digital Transformation
An earlier version of the Study conducted in 2015 found that 58 out of 100 respondents in Philippines were ready for the New World of Work, whereby organizations had the right People, Place and Technology principles in place to enable a productive, collaborative and innovative workforce. This year, 67 out of 100 respondents felt so, indicating that organizations in the market are slightly more equipped, although more can be done to move the needle.

But beyond People, Place and Technology factors, the rise of the 4th industrial revolution has also accelerated the pace of transformation. A recent Microsoft Asia Digital Transformation Study3 conducted in late 2016 found that "Empowering Employees" is the number two digital transformation priority among Philippines’ business leaders. On the other hand, having a digital skilled workforce was ranked the third barrier in their digital transformation journey.

The digital transformation pillar, "Empower Employees" emphasizes organizations to use technology to help employees be connected and work from anywhere, as well as collaborate and share knowledge digitally.

New Work Styles and Organizational Conflicts Need to Be Addressed
It is evident that mobile professionals in the market are embracing flexi-work today, and organizations should look at new workplace practices, especially with the impeding influx of digital natives (born after 2000) entering the workforce for the first time.

A large majority of the respondents (84%) value work-life integration today, where the boundaries of work and life have blurred, but have enabled mobile professionals to be able to collaborate and work virtually.

The Study also found that organizations need to address several structural challenges within the workplace to ready themselves for the digital age, as well as flexi-work practices:

  1. Organisation’s Leaders are a key enabler to drive flexi-work practices in the workplace. Only 53% agree that their organization’s leadership is committed in bridging the digital skills gap in the workplace.
  2. Organizational culture is important. Only 50% agree that their organization has invested in culture development through training and development led by HR.
  3. Access to newer, data-centric technologies to enhance collaboration and productivity. 46% feel that their organization has invested in analytics and data tools to help them make informed and timely decisions; 50% agree that their organization has given them tools to simplify workflows.
New World of Teams Requires New Approaches
Workplace shifts have undeniably resulted in new ways of work, where technologies have enabled increased collaboration between individuals and teams across geographies and groups. However, the Study found that there were certain gaps today that hindered collaborative and productive outcomes from teams.

The top challenges included:

  1. Teams take too long to respond to internal issues (29%)
  2. Too many face to face meetings that are taking up productive time (27%)
  3. Team members are not accommodating with flexi-work schedules (24%); and teams are too rigid and not open to new ways of work (24%)
  4. Teams are not open to new initiatives to improve processes (20%)
However, respondents feel that strong leadership and vision from team leader (52%), access to technology tools (50%) and diverse team members across job functions (40%) can help build more collaborative teams.

Access to Newer, Collaborative Technologies will Enhance Productivity
The Study also found that respondents are seeking better devices to help them become more productive at work. Beyond hardware requirements, 36% wish for ability to access information and data on their mobile devices and 27% hope to have access to cloud-based productivity tools.

When asked about emerging technologies that will help build better work environments by 2020:

  • 46% look forward to real-time intelligence that will help them make informed decisions at work.
  • 42% would like virtual work spaces that support instant messaging and document sharing.
  • 36% think Artificial Intelligence will be able to help perform tasks independently

"As the nature of work changes, how employees collaborate and work together will be impacted as well. It is critical for business and HR leaders to seek ways to better empower individuals and remove barriers to collaborate for the digital age, especially when the Study clearly identifies gaps that can be minimized with technology. However, it is also important for businesses to also bridge the leadership and employee gap with more focus on people and culture," O’Neill continues.

The recently announced Microsoft Teams brings together people, conversations and content, along with the tools that teams need. It’s integrated with familiar Office applications and is built from the ground up on Office 365 and Microsoft’s global, secured cloud.

Microsoft Teams is built on four core promises:

  • Chat for today’s teams. Microsoft Teams provides a modern conversations experience, with threaded, persistent chat to keep everyone engaged. Team conversations can be either private or visible to the entire team, and users can access multiple teams, making it easy to switch between projects.
  • A hub for teamwork. The Office applications and services that teams use every day — Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, OneNote and PowerBI— are all built-in, so people have the information and tools they need.
  • Customization for every team. Microsoft Teams offers the ability to customize work spaces with tabs, connectors and bots from third-party partners as well as familiar Microsoft tools like Microsoft Planner and Visual Studio Team Services. Today, more than 150 integrations are available or coming soon, with companies like SAP, Trello, Hipmunk, Growbot and ModuleQ building on the platform.
  • Security teams trust. Microsoft Teams is built on the hyper-scale, enterprise-grade Office 365 cloud, delivering the advanced security and compliance capabilities our customers expect. Teams supports global standards including SOC 1, SOC 2, EU Model Clauses, ISO27001 and HIPAA.

Microsoft Teams: A chat-based virtual workspace for collaboration

Customers worldwide are choosing Microsoft Teams to enable collaboration within their organizations.  Since announcing the preview in November, more than 50,000 organizations have started using Microsoft Teams, including Alaska Airlines, ConocoPhillips, Deloitte, Expedia, J.B. Hunt, J. Walter Thompson, Hendrick Motorsports, Sage, Trek Bicycle and Three UK. In Asia, customers such as Amicus, Blackmores, Graincorp, Objective Corporation, Readify and RSL Queensland have adopted Microsoft Teams for their workplace.

Andrew Grech, Blackmores’ head of IT operations, says the tight integration of Office 365 and Microsoft Teams means that when a group is working on a project everyone is assured that the most current artefacts and content are available immediately. "The benefit we’re seeing from the collaboration Office 365 brings are huge. We’re able to work as one team, in real time, helping us reach decisions quicker and driving engagement and connection within the business."

Organizations interested in the new chat-based work space can start using Teams today. For more details on Microsoft Teams, visit Office Blog here.

FAQs about Ragnarok Online Philippines’ Relaunch

Ragnarok PH CBT is Coming on June 2017! The Closed Beta Testing (CBT) of Ragnarok Online Philippines will happen in the middle of June 2017. This was announced in last Friday's Q&A Session with no less than Kamphee "Ken" Piromward, Managing Director of Electronics Extreme, and Johnny Paek of Elite Global Sourcing.

The duo also answered questions from members of the media, bloggers, Guild Masters, and Ragnarok enthusiasts regarding the server settings and what to expect in the upcoming relaunch.

Here are some of the information that we got from the Question and Answer session with Kamphee "Ken" Piromward and Johnny Paek:

  • Multi-Client (up to 5) will be allowed. This could mean that you can set up your shop in one client while grinding for materials in another client.
  • There will be no Ragial marketplace or RO Player Database (ROPD) bot roaming around to collect data. Selling and buying items will be done in the old-fashion way
  • There will be an anti-bot program from Finland. The system is protected by Protected By EasyAntiCheat. As of this writing, there are no solid proof of the existence of Bots in the Thailand servers.
  • It will be a Free-to-Play, Free-to-Win (F2P-FTW) server with no IMBA item in the cash shop. All Key-items could be dropped in game. All you need is teamwork and assiduity.
  • No VIP service. That would mean no monthly subscriptions.
  • Item mall will mostly consist of costumes. There will be some rental items but most items will be permanent.
  • Rate of server is 1x (both experience and drop).
  • All items that used to be obtained via cash shop before (with the old publisher LUG) will be available in-game. Even Bubble Gums will be obtained from activities in-game. Again, all you need is teamwork and assiduity.
  • Support for the game will be via chat. Improved customer service and a real-time response is expected.
  • No instance dungeon (MVP). The game promotes equality of the players.
  • Top-up card will be available for players’ convenience. As long as you have access to sellers of top up cards or you own a credit card, you can purchase from the item mall.
  • There will be no IP restrictions. Anyone from anywhere can technically play at the new server. Old players who are overseas can still play the online game they love.
  • The game will be launched for PC version only. No native Mac support (unless there is Windows inside Mac) or mobile version. However, there is an "official" Ragnarok game already launched for mobile, this is not the same with what will be launched for PC this year.
  • There will be no double standards. GMs will have no access to in-game items and all GM items will be reviewed by the Thai publisher. The GMs function will be limited to player support.
  • Closed Beta Testing will be in the middle of June 2017 and the Open Beta Testing will be announced after the CBT once it’s perfect. Pre-registration pahse for CBT is now ongoing, head on to the Ragnarok ONline PH official site to create your account.
  • Godly items. Godly items will be released soon.
  • Guild allies will be allowed.
  • Server settings will be Revo-Classic. Philippine server will be very similar to the Thai server. As they say, where the joy and balance meets.
  • Guides. The publisher will provide basic quest information but monster information and monsters location is highly encouraged to be learned during the CBT.
  • There will be no simulator for a 7 vs 7 match in the game. Players are encouraged to join the real-life events that will be held in different parts of the country. On that same note, bring back Ragnarok World Championships!
  • There will be no instant job change. You have to do it the old way.
  • There will be two CBT servers. These will be known as Thor and Loki.
  • The server will start with Episode 1 with the basic 2-1 Class. 2-2 Class will be released within 6 months and High Class within 1-2 years.
  • All monsters return to original spawn points. Ignore level differences between Player and Monster (Renewal Feature). Easier grinding, if we may say.
  • Guild war will be released In the first 3 weeks. Time to grind and build your levels after the CBT closes.
  • Custom Events For Philippines. There will be more details about this feature as we move forward.

The Closed Beta Phase will kick-off in the middle of June this year with the soft launch and the full launch to take place once the major bugs have been worked out. The good news is, you don’t have to wait until June in order to reserve your slot in the CBT servers as a pre-registration phase is already ongoing through the official Ragnarok Online Philippines website, better hurry up and head to the site now if you want to register for CBT as the slots are assumed to be limited considering it will only be for Closed Beta Testing.

The gift of healthy ‘crowning glory’ fit for the queen this Mother’s Day

CLICHE it may be, but there’s indeed a woman behind the person we are today. And that’s no less than her—our mother. We used to call her nanay, inay, ‘nay, mama, mommy or simply mom. Needless to say, she deserves more than that given the pivotal role she fulfills in rearing us from childhood to adulthood and possibly for the rest of our lives.

There may be opposing beliefs whether that greater maternal instinct is biologically predetermined or socially imposed, but everyone would agree that a mother is hardwired to love and care about the whole family, especially the children, all the time. For better or worse, it’s always the welfare of everyone at home on top of her priority.

No wonder she’s an epitome of a doting human being that touches everybody’s life. So, it’s but right to honor and return all the favors she has done for us. And what a better way to do this than this Mother’s Day.

Still drooling over the ways on how to spend this time of the year again with her? Well, you may opt for the basics of gift-giving from simple trinkets to expensive items. But take note, your appreciation of her is not equated by the tag price of your present. It’s the thought that counts, as an adage says.

You may consider a set of hankies that will bring back the memory of her wiping out her tears of happiness upon knowing that she’s conceiving a li’l creature inside her womb. That’s you, of course. A loose yet comfy clothes shall make her remember that sort of a duster or preggy dress she wore in the laborious yet exciting “nine months” of gestation.

Why not a pillow that she could hug as tight as she embraced you after giving birth, or maybe a brassiere for protection of the very bosom she fed you with during infancy? A bed will bring to her mind your tot years when you started to crawl and roll over it freely.

Shoes are a girl’s best friend, too, like your mom. Either sky-high heels or flattering flats, there’s a pair to match every bit of her fantasy. For as long as it brings comfort to her feet, it's more than enough to reciprocate the ease you had when you took your first walk with her guidance back then. If it isn’t her thing, though, a flip-flop will cause her to think that she also disciplined you through the proverbial “rule of slipper” hit on your buttocks while you were growing up.

Much to her delight, a bling ring will be worthy of your dear investment to show your deep appreciation of her just like when she never failed to recognize you with a pat on the back for simple good deeds or a job well done in your lifetime.

Stuck for an idea yet? Here’s a simple but meaningful token of gratitude that for sure will make a big difference and, eventually, pull off a surprise for the celebrant herself: The NOVUHAIR 3-in-1 pack which includes the topical scalp lotion, herbal shampoo and conditioner. Yes, you read it right.

Still not convinced enough, why don’t you spray a liberal amount of NOVUHAIR topical scalp lotion onto your mom’s scalp and massage it for five to ten minutes. You may not even know that with such a plain gesture of yours, it can melt her heart as it reminds her of the past when she used to do the same thing while you were still young, either as a trick to put you easily on a slumber or merely a relief every time you got sick. Those caressing hands of yours, likewise, imbibe your act of giving back the “natural care from mothers” like her.

Whatever impression it may have on her, what’s tangible she could gain is that you’re giving her nature’s gift of health. NOVUHAIR Topical Scalp Lotion is so unique that it combines 19 natural herbs, essential oils and co-factor nutrients––all working synergistically to help address hair problems from growth to vanishing. This breakthrough product helps to rejuvenate, nourish and maintain the moist of her tress from root to tip, aids in stimulating the growth of her hair and helps prevent it from excessive falling, while improving the overall appearance.

More than anything else, NOVUHAIR 3-in-1 pack may be one of the most precious gifts that your mom could ever receive in her entire life. Well, she’s the most important woman in your life after all. Hence, she deserves to be treated like a queen with that vibrant, bouncy and shiny “crowning glory.”

NOVUHAIR 3-in-1 pack is beyond compare. So, don’t think twice to wrap it as your present for her this Mother’s Day and, if ever, for life. Head on to any Mercury Drug and other leading drugstores to get a dose of nature’s answer to hair loss.  For inquiries, call 413-6570 or 0922-8830575, and visit www.novuhair.com for more details.
