Novuhair Head Bags Agora Award

President and CEO Wins in the Individual Category of the 37th Agora Awards

Quezon City, Philippines – Nutramedica, Inc. President and CEO Sheila Mae Velilla bagged the Outstanding Achievement in Entrepreneurship – Medium Scale at the recently concluded 37th Agora Awards. Nutramedica is a homegrown 100% wholly-owned Filipino enterprise that manufactures and distributes Novuhair, an acclaimed line of products that addresses hair loss.

Held last October 26 at PICC, CCP Complex, the Agora Awards recognizes individuals and organizations for exceptional marketing skills and strategies.  It is touted to be the premier marketing awards body in the country and sets the high standards of excellence in the industry.

FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS TO BIG WINNER
Moving in an industry dominated by giant multinational pharmaceutical companies, Nutramedica’s tenacious rise from its humble beginnings as a microenterprise is one for the books. Thanks largely to its creativity and innovation, it has become a major player with a well-established niche in the industry.

Founded in 2004 by Velilla, Nutramedica develops beauty and healthcare products out of natural and mostly indigenous ingredients. It is one of the pioneers in the commercialization of virgin coconut oil (VCO) and gained wide success with its slogan “healthiest oil on earth,” which led to its acquisition by a big company.

It continued to create more VCO-based skin care products and hit the jackpot with its latest, and now banner, product – Novuhair, nature’s answer to hair loss. This breakthrough solution is made of 19 herbal ingredients and comes in topical scalp lotion, herbal shampoo, and herbal conditioner that effectively battles the effects of hair loss and helps enhance and restore one’s crowning glory.

Launched in 2009, Novuhair enjoys tremendous success until today.  It is widely accepted not only here in the Philippines, but also in other countries.  It is set to enter the international market, starting with the United States (US), in December of this year.  Such bold, yet timely, move of the company to export Novuhair to the US and eventually the Middle East also opens the opportunity for proudly-made local products to penetrate the global arena.

Novuhair’s popularity and market leadership may be attributed to the company’s initial market study coupled with the right timing, as well as smart use of resources by coming up with an effective tri-media campaign best described as low-budget yet high-impact marketing.

Leveraging on its organic growth from a microenterprise to medium scale with over 30 employees in a span of 12 years, Nutramedica continues to further develop, market and distribute high-quality goods that could bring honor to the country.

The firm raises the bar in entrepreneurship with its faithful adherence to best business practices, such as provision of high quality products and excellent services, adaptability to market trends, constant innovation, diversification of trade, and giving back to society.

Great things in business are never done by one person, they are done by a team of people”, Velilla quotes Steve Jobs when asked what’s her secret to success in this competitive business of beauty and healthcare.

We at Nutramedica also adhere to our core values of integrity, trust, fairness, discipline, humility, leadership, teamwork and faith in God.  That’s our winning formula,” Velilla further adds.

Novuhair Topical Scalp Lotion, Shampoo and Conditioner are available in all Mercury Drug Stores and other leading drug stores nationwide. For more information visit www.novuhair.com, like the brand’s official Facebook Page at Novuhair Official, follow it on Twitter at @NovuhairNatural and on Instagram @novuhairofficial. If you’ve ever wondered exactly what is Habitat ReStore, how the stores support Habitat for Humanity, or just about any other Habitat ReStore related question, you’re in the right place.

What is Habitat for Humanity ReStore?
Habitat ReStores are nonprofit home improvement charity stores. The items they offer are for the public and are similar to what you may be familiar with seeing in other home good stores, but Habitat ReStores have their own purpose.

The purpose of Habitat ReStores is to contribute to the work of Habitat for Humanity. When you support Habitat for Humanity ReStore Philippines by shopping, donating or volunteering, you are not only supporting your local community but also helping the mission to provide decent shelter here in the Philippines.

Because the stock of ReStore depends on donations, you never know exactly what you’ll find at ReStore. It could be the brand new box of tile you’ve been needing to complete a bathroom project, or a vintage treasure you won’t find anywhere else. You can expect to find both new and gently used items throughout the store.

What donations does Habitat ReStore accept?
There are a wide variety of items Habitat ReStores accept that fall under the household or building products.

However, most stores are often on the lookout for the following specific items, grouped by category:

Household items
Appliances
TVs
Furniture
Lighting

Building Materials
Doors & windows
Plumbing supplies
Hand & power tools
Flooring

This is not an exhaustive list, but it is a good start to let you know what kind of items ReStores accept if you are thinking about donating.

When you are ready to donate, please send an email to restore@habitat.org.ph or contact 856-9342 / 807-1169 / 0927-5720887 / 0908-7273377 to make sure they are currently accepting the items you would like to donate. How do you find your ReStore? We’re glad you asked:

Where can I find a Habitat ReStore?
ReStore in the Philippines: the 1st and only one in Asia. Lot 2, Block, G-3, Alabang-Zapote Rd, Almanza Uno, Las Pinas City, 1750 (in between DBP Village and Shell gas station, beside Amaia Devt)

Are Habitat ReStores open to the public?
Yes! All Habitat ReStores are open to the public. Stop by during store hours to see what kind of deals you can find, as well as to drop off your own donations.

How do ReStores support Habitat for Humanity?
Habitat ReStores help fund Habitat for Humanity’s mission to end substandard housing by building strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. Proceeds from Habitat ReStores are put to use both in your local community and around the world.

Do you offer furniture donation pickup? What about appliances?
Habitat ReStore does offer pickup services for many items. Call ahead to make sure they currently are accepting the item or items you have available.

Can I donate a car?
You sure can! You can even donate a truck, boat, bus, plane or other vehicle.

What does a Habitat ReStore offer?
Habitat ReStores tend to resemble a home improvement store — a very unique home improvement store.

The wide variety of quality goods you’ll find is a result of ReStore donations coming from everyone, from you and your neighbor after you’ve finished a project around the house to large restaurant chains that are remodeling their restaurants and donating the old furniture to ReStore.

At the majority of ReStores you’ll find items that fit into the following categories: building materials, appliances and furniture. The items you’ll find will range from brand new to gently used, and there will likely be a wide range of brands and styles. Of course, that’s not all you’ll find, so we recommend getting down to Habitat ReStore today (and you may want to go back next week, too, to see what new items have arrived).

How do Habitat ReStores help the environment?
When a gently used building material or household product is donated to Habitat ReStore and then offered at a discount to a community member that needs it, that item is recycled and kept out of the landfill.

How can I support Habitat ReStore?
In all kinds of ways!

When you shop or donate at a ReStore, you are automatically supporting the Habitat mission worldwide. Additionally, ReStores are always looking for volunteers. Volunteers can range from customer service to interior decorators.

Just like the inventory of every ReStore is different, so are the volunteer needs.

What are some examples of DIY projects made from items from Habitat ReStores?
Though at most stores you’ll often find new or nearly new items that are ready to use as soon as you get it home, many also scour Habitat ReStore for items that will be part of their next DIY or upcycle project.

HOW ALKALINE WATER AND DIET CAN HELP MAINTAIN YOUR HEALTH

Much has been said regarding the impact of an acidic body ph to one’s health particularly its connection with various diseases.

The body naturally creates acids as part of the digestive system or as a by-product of various metabolic processes. However, one’s body may experience over acidity due to factors like a diet rich in processed foods, stress, and other lifestyle factors. Chronic over acidity affects all the body’s cellular functions and is seen to contribute to cancer, heart disease, obesity, weight problems, allergies, fatigue and premature aging as well as problems with our nervous system, cardiovascular system and muscles.

To counteract the negative effects of over acidity, it is recommended that people adopt an alkaline diet and drink alkaline water. Alkaline foods are foods that create an alkaline effect in the body regardless of their actual ph levels. This means that even food like lemons and limes actually have an alkaline effect on the body. Additionally the alkaline diet involves limited consumption of meats, dairy products, white flour and white sugar which are very acidic. Instead, one should eat large quantities of fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, and soy products.

Apart from eating alkaline foods, drinking alkaline water can also play a major role in balancing one’s body ph. However, most conventional alkaline water is produced using electrolysis and ionizer based technology which involves passing electric current through water laced with chemical catalyst submerged with titanium or platinum plates. This process can create trace amounts of chemicals from the breakdown of the catalyst as well as trace amounts of metals from the plates.

At the same time, alkaline water produced using this artificial method has very short shelf lives. This is because the artificially induced alkaline effect wears off in a matter of days. At the same time, the alkaline water produced using electrolysis is also very sensitive to temperature fluctuations which makes storage difficult.

An alternative to this process is naturally infusing alkalinity into the water to mimic the same properties found in spring or pristine river water. Thanks to advances technology it is now possible to replicate this using nano-technology to infuse nano minerals into regular water to turn it alkaline. And it is this latest technological advance that is being used in Livingstream Nano Alkaline Water.

Livingstream is the latest concept by GQWEST Inc. the company behind the Aquabest water franchise. By looking back to nature and harnessing the latest in technology, the company envisions the concept as the future in drinking water. Utilizing cutting edge South Korean nanotechnology, Livingstream aims to provide everyone with safe, healthy, and life-changing water.

To produce alkaline water the natural way, Livingstream utilizes filters that contain alkaline nano minerals derived from seashells. When water passes through these filters these nano minerals are infused into the water. Since the nano minerals are derived from biological sources and are integrated into the water there is no risk of any contaminants and the ph level remains constant over long periods of time and regardless of temperature.

To ensure that the water is safe to drink, Livingstream also utilize nano silver to eliminate bacterial and viral contaminants in water. Silver has been used for centuries as an anti-bacterial and antiviral due to its ability to disrupt the cellular process of the contaminants thus killing them.

To introduce the concept to the public the company intends to unveil Livingstream for franchising at the 15th Franchise & Business Expo on October 14-16 at World Trade Center, Pasay City. To learn more about Livingstream Nano-Alkaline Water visit www.livingstream.com.ph.

INVEST NOW WITH THE SUN LIFE PROSPERITY CARD

One of today’s most in-demand celebrities, Matteo Guidicelli, is featured in the latest television commercial of Sun Life Asset Management Company, Inc. (SLAMCI) And get this: there’s not just one, but two Matteos going up against each other.

The TVC shows two Matteos with strikingly opposite tactics: one tries to impress by bragging his material possessions, including a new phone and a credit card, while the other woos her by promising a brighter future together with the help of the Sun Life Prosperity Card.

The Sun Life Prosperity Card is an investment card worth P5,000 which may be invested in any of the peso-denominated mutual funds managed by SLAMCI under its Sun Life Prosperity Funds. The first of its kind in the market, it has revolutionized mutual funds investing in the country.

"We wanted SLAMCI’s new TVC to encourage the audience to begin their investing journey with the Sun Life Prosperity Card because it’s an easy and convenient way to start building one’s brighter future," explained SLAMCI president Valerie Pama. "By investing in mutual funds, one can make his money work harder for him, as against simply leaving all of it in the bank."

To illustrate this point, Pama shared that a 91-day time deposit in a bank 10 years ago would have given 28% return; but for the same period, the Sun Life Prosperity Bond Fund grew by 66%, while the money invested in the Sun Life Prosperity Balanced Fund would have earned 155%. Meanwhile, an investment in the Sun Life Prosperity Philippine Equity Fund gained 221%.

"This is exactly why we want Filipinos, especially the youth, to start investing some of their money in mutual funds," Pama said. "Instead of using up all of one’s money on trendy items that will soon be replaced by a new fad, why not invest it for the long term and watch it grow? The two Matteos in our TVC certainly highlighted that message in fun yet clear manner."

For his part, Matteo said he had fun portraying two different personas. "It’s the first time I did such a project, and I definitely enjoyed playing both roles," he said. "But what’s important is that we were able to bring home the message. It’s fun to have nice material things and be on YOLO mode, but what will happen to you if all your money runs out and you have nothing saved for the long-term?"

And if there’s one thing that Matteo knows, it’s that some things are definitely worth the wait. "Whether I’m doing sports or working on a showbiz project, I know that I need to be patient before I could see the results. Training for a competition takes time, and so does shooting a movie or recording an album. It’s the same thing when you invest your money – you have to grow it long-term before you can enjoy the benefits," he explained. "You may have to wait a bit, but it’s always, always worth it!"

Catch SLAMCI’s latest TVC featuring Matteo Guidicelli on cable TV. To learn more about the Sun Life Prosperity Card and how you can start investing for a brighter future, visit sunlifeprosperity.com.ph.

Such opportunity is possible when one becomes a Financial Advisor. This is a door that Sun Life (of Canada) Philippines, Inc. opens wider with a recruitment drive called #LiveBrighter. It aims to present the profession as a career choice for Millennials who wish to have the time and resources to pursue their passions as they advocate financial foresight and planning.

"Millennials are known to be slashers as they juggle a lot of things live travelling, blogging, and other passion projects on top of their regular 8-5 jobs. It sounds very aspirational but how can they sustain this in terms of time and resources?" said Sun life Recruitment Manager Fin Bernardo. "With that in mind, we see that the profession of a Financial Advisor is a perfect fit for their lifestyle," added Bernardo.

This is a series of meet-ups to show how a Financial Advisor lives up to the demands and rewards of the profession. It aims to reach more Millennials and send them the message that their dream job is just here all along.

With more Filipinos keen on getting insurance and investment products, the possibilities for new Advisors are endless. “We need more Financial Advisors to educate Filipinos on the importance of preparing for unexpected life’s events and offer them solutions that let them have Money For Life,” explained Bernardo.
